Players are randomly placed into one of eight groups. Players play every other player in their group in a fast paced heads-up no limit hold'em game. Matches last from one minute to 40 minutes, with most averaging about 20 minutes. The player in each group that ends up with the best record is considered the winner of the group and advances to the single elimination rounds and into the money. The eight winners are placed in a traditional single elimination bracket randomly, and play their respective opponents until a single winner emerges. Those who advance to the semi-finals win more money, as do those who advance to the finals. The winner, of course, also wins more money than the 2nd place finisher. In addition, we may have the semi-final round losing players play one another to determine 3rd and 4th place finishing order, and respective prize money that goes along with that order of finish. Players 5-8 will not playoff, but will all be considered to have tied. Also, we usually give more play to the each successive round after the group play is completed, and will likely require the two finalists to play the best 2 out of 3. Also, because of time constraints, we will very likely NOT finish all of FIHUPT Thursday night. As such, all remaining matches will be scheduled at the earliest convenience of the players, and most likely take place in the hospitality suite.
